Doctoral Dissertation Defense - UIC Graduate College.

The defense of the dissertation is administered after the student has completed all graduation requirements. Only students in good academic standing are permitted to defend their dissertation. All candidates for the PhD and DA degrees must have an advisor who is a member of the UIC graduate faculty. The advisor is considered the primary reader.

UIC electronic theses and dissertations are accessible to UIC students, faculty and staff though INDIGO. Some dissertations and all theses published prior to 2011 are available only in print. Visitors will need to come into the library to access both electronic and print versions.

When a PhD student has completed all graduation requirements and is in good academic standing, the final step in the doctoral program is to defend the dissertation before a committee. The student must submit a copy of the dissertation to each member of the committee prior to the defense date. If requested, the defense can be open to the UIC.

UIC Doctoral Students. Dissertation committees are put together according to guidelines similar to those for preliminary examination committees, except that one member must be from outside the UIC computer science faculty.
